Hello My Name Is...
Tina Gower
I have been at Hixson High School since 2008 as a Comprehensive Developmental Classroom (CDC) teacher. Before coming to Hixson High, I taught a variety students with disabilities in grades 3rd-8th (beginning in 2001). Through my experiences, I have gained a love of teaching individuals with disabilities.
In the effort to help ready our students for the workforce, I became a Work Based Learning Coordinator for individuals with disabilities in 2008. Our students work on campus, and/or go out into the community as "student learners" to gain hands on work experience. Through this program, students have been offered jobs and/or moved on to being accepted in Project Search at Blue Cross Blue Shield.
I am also a Special Olympics Coordinator. Our Special Olympics athletes participate in various local, regional, and state events throughout the year. In the fall of 2018, we jumped onboard the Inclusion Revolution and began Unified Sports. In May, 2019, we became a Unified Champion School for Special Olympics.
